Build an online portfolio with Carbonmade

You can use portfolios for everything from exhibiting student projects to creating a teaching portfolio. Back in my day, though, building a portfolio meant shelling out a few bucks for a three-ring binder and those plastic pageholders — and then I had to spend way more time than I budgeted for stuffing and organizing my work in the binder. Carbonmade takes the hassle out of the portfolio process by letting you or your students set up free, simple portfolios online.
The free version, which is titled “Meh,” allows you to upload five projects consisting of a combined 35 images of up to 5MB each. You can upload projects in JPG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PNG, and Flash formats. I was dismayed that you can’t upload PDF files, or any sort of text documents, but I guess you can’t have it all. If you want to shell out 12 bucks a month, you can upgrade to their “Whoo!” account level for a lot more storage, but the “Meh” version will probably be enough for casual users.
The most likely uses for Carbonmade would be to display student work in an art, photography, or multimedia class. If you’re looking around for a new job, Carbonmade might make for a slick way to impress potential employers by showing off class projects, or pictures of you wowing your students. What ever you want to use it for, Carbonmade makes putting your portfolio together a snap.
