PBS Teachers is a smorgasbord of teacher resources
February 19, 2010Let me just say it: I love PBS. From the documentaries, to the quality children’s programming, it’s one of my favorite channels to watch. But my love of Cookie Monster aside, did you know that PBS had developed a top-notch web resource for teachers? If the answer was no, then you owe it to yourself and your students to spend a planning period looking at the PBS Teachers website.
Inside you’ll find a deluge of great resources to augment or create any classroom project. It’s smartly divided into appropriate grade groupings to make finding age-appropriate content a breeze. Within a given grade group, it’s subdivided by subject so you don’t need to wade through math resources if you’re looking for a social studies lesson plan. Once you have the grade and subject you want, there is tabbed browsing so you can look at their classroom resources (lesson plans, excellent multimedia, web-based interactive tools, plus many more), discussion boards to collaborate with other educators, and professional development classes to boot!
There is a prodigious amount of stuff here. To demonstrate that point, for grades 3-5 in the science and tech area alone there are 171 pages of JUST classroom resources (thankfully they have included filters and search options to winnow those down). The content is top shelf and the layout is intuitive. What are you waiting for? Dig in!
